Thanks very much Ronnie. You've prompted me to consult RAVE to learn a bit more about the bulb failure system which I thought I'd share with readers.

The number plate lamps are conventionally hard wired from the LSM, i.e. a 12v positive supply and an earth.
The bulb failure electronics are contained within the LSM and sense an open circuit. The LSM then sends the information via the K-bus to the instrument pack for display.

The CANbus is a high speed network which links the Engine Control, ABS and Automatic Transmission modules with the instrument pack. The LSM isn't connected to it.

So you are absolutely correct in principle Ronnie but it's the K-bus rather than the CANbus which is involved. Thanks again.
