Nor was I - I did not consider it an argument at all. I do enjoy the exchange of views and thrashing out the detail. Perhaps I am just a little sad like that! |

Having used Maninders jack I can confirm it is a very nice bit of kit, nearly as nice as his rather impressive collection of railway sleeper chocks!

Well I still like my SGS 3Ton Jack. Lifts well high enough to put the car on axle stands from the front and rear middle jacking points, and has a rubber cover on the lifting cup. It is heavy, but it gives you confidence in its use. Had mine around 2/3 years now.

but will add a bit now . As seen, trolley jacks come in all shapes and sizes but certain attributes determine their effectiveness 1, height of lowered jack pad 1, The amount of lift the can achieve , 2, The jack pad, cup its self , (foot print ) 3, the jack weight and footprint (stability) 4, While smaller jacks will adequately lift the car larger jacks tend to make easier work of it due to % capacity , Interesting to note that most recommendation's on here are for 3 tonne jacks , but I think that is probably seen as a size of trolley jack that will suit all car based vehicles needs Personally I have 2tonne, 2,25 high lift and a 3 tonne jack either in my car boots or inside my garage but preference is to use the 3t jack as it covers all the above points most effectively and if buying just one jack , why not buy the one that suits all needs The you quoted the ramps to me , a A nice piece of kit , even at even at 0 .9t they have a combined axle lifting of 1.8 T Interestingly you mentioned kerb weight , We have at least two cars in the family that are approaching 2 tonne , and I think this trend is going to continue as more cars are manufactured with battery packs Last edited by TourerSteve; 17th October 2021 at 08:12.. |

You can't beat sleeper chocks, blocks , Better than axle stands in a lot of circumstances , particularly on car sills ! |

Trolley Jack Update
Good morning,
I thought I would give you an update on my request for recommendations regarding the purchase of a trolley jack. I have to say it would appear to me that generally speaking there is not really a lot between some on them apart from the colour of the paint? So I eventually decided to buy a 2.5 Ton low profile trolley jack from Auto Jack. https://www.autojacktools.co.uk/trol...ift/p-aut01023 Normal Price £119.95, Sale Price £109.95 and then they offered me another 10% off so Final Price £98.96. Anyway thanks for your thoughts and I will let you know how I get on with my new purchase in due course. Thanks David |

Thank you for letting us know, the height lift seems ok, what size is the Saddle pan ? as a good rubber disc will help and compliment the tool, i bought this one for mine below, i also made some new wood plates in case i ever need that little bit more height. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233584516652 I will post up the wood height pads i made later. 1 2 3 5 6 7 The reason i made them oblong it also allow me to use them on the back axle on the FL2 8

An ice hockey puck placed on the pan works well to protect the lifting points.

I bought this one, at the price it's a steal, and low profile helps if you have cars with shoddy clearance or unforgiving conditions. |

Hi Sam That is ok for lifting using the side jacking points, i would not fancy using it for the front centre and rear centre jacking points, the saddle diameter is small only 6cm as opposed to 13cm saddle diameter on the 2.5 and 3ton trolley jacks. It would most likely slip off the jacking points. This one as a 11cm saddle https://www.halfords.com/tools/garag...ck-657305.html
