Default Oil pump on 75 1.8 2001

Does anyone know if Tim will need to change the whole thing or is it feasable to mend this, hes had an oil leak on the sump, fixed that,,but the car is still going through loads of oil and he,s now discovered its now coming from the oil pump, hes getting really fed up as every month something else goes wrong with the blasted thing,
I told him to treat it as a rolling restoration with a big to do list, and as something else goes wrong, fix it and then tick it off the list,

Hi Tim
If you are loosing a lot of engine oil from the pump area after just sealing another leak I would check the oil pressure with a gauge to make sure its not to high and finding the easy way out, could be the relief valve stuck ?
Good luck
PS I am in Sheffield where are you
