A MK2 Escort Ghia, passed 1st time as I decided there was no way I was going to fail.

Although self taught I had to have a couple of lessons in a driving instructors car as my own car at the time was a Triumph 2000 Auto and I wanted an A licence so needed a manual.

So I used to drive into Maidstone in my Triumph have my lesson and go home!

Ironically the day I passed my test I was able to take off the L plates and was stopped 30 minutes later by the plod for a routine check!

Passed the test in the driving school 1980 Cortina 1.3L (2 door). Felt like a barge compared to my mum's Mini that I practised in between lessons in the Cortina (at 5 pounds an hour...)

I was at Old Park Barracks in Dover at the same time!!:lol:

Passed my test in a 3 ton Bedford truck in Germany in 1978. Never took a car test.
Passed my theory test (Germany had this long before us) on the Friday, Started an intensive 5 day HGV driving course on the following Monday, took the test on Friday afternoon and failed. Retook it following Monday and passed.

That's how to do it, intensive and thorough.

On the Wednesday following my pass I had to take another Bedford to Hamburg fully laden with stores on my own. Absolutely sh*t* myself but no better way to gain experience!!!!!

Passed mine in 1982 driving a 1974 Capri 3 litre GT I had to borrow off my dad, because my instructor had a smash on the way to collect me for my pre-test lesson and I passed first time.
