Hi

My first post as an owner of an MG. My Dad had MG's all of his life when he got an MG TD in the early 1960's when he was 19, followed soon after by an MGB which is still in his garage. He had them both until about ten years ago when he sold the MG TD but the MGB goes on.

He died last week, sadly, at the age of 72, and so I am hoping to take up the reins of his MG life by following his footsteps.

My mum has passed his 2002 MG ZT 2.5 ltr V6 to me because she can't drive due to poor sight, and in due course, she wants me to have his MGB too which I intend to take much care of. He used to drive me and my brother about in it when we were little so it has great sentimental value to me. We called it "The Purple People Eater", because it's purple and there used to be a kids show of that name in the early 80's.

Concurrently I intend to take care of his ZT as well, which he loved for more regular car use, given that the MGB was more of a Sunday car.

I was encouraged to ask for help here if I needed it by an MG Breaker in Burton who said the ZT crowd is of the very "traditional MG persona"...i.e. friendly.

Welcome to the club.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

He was obviously a real MG enthusiast.

We're happy to help however we can.

Sounds like two cracking motors you have there. Feel free to get some pictures up.

And hopefully see you and the car(s) at future get togethers.

My interest in Rovers was started by my dad. A series of V8 3500's and I was hooked. Every time I sit back and enjoy mine I think of him, the way he used to sink into his seat with one hand on the wheel and the other arm resting on the central armrest/stashbox! Enjoy the memories and the "present"!

Welcome to the "family" there isa wealth of help and advice here plus there are plenty of meeting etc.

I feel for your loss especially so young. We lost dad just before Christmas. Mother took it especially hard as he dies just 6 days before their 62nd wedding anniversary................. Dad was 93 years old.

Thanks all for the words and warm welcome.

As suggested, here is the ZT, newly washed and polished...by hand!

First of all I'm sorry to hear of your fathers passing and welcome aboard here.

You have inherited some real gems from your father and I'm sure you will look after them well.

I remember the purple MGB's quite a rare colour, I worked for a few years with a main Austin Rover dealership and fitted car radios and all sorts of accessories to the cars.

I wish you well in your quest in maintaining your fathers cars.
