Quote on new key
I spoke to a few local bods regarding a new key as I have one remote one plus just an empty fobcase with key blade cut.
Had prices of 160 quid up for a new remote unlocking jobbie, but another guy gas said 40quid for a key to manually unlock which will also be able to to start engine as he will copy the key via his computer and cut a new blade shall I go for it ?

Nope!
Speak to Brian or Russ, they will do a key that will work and be as good as an original.

I would have a word with one of the "key specialists" on the Forum here before proceeding . I for example got a whole key for my MG for only £70 from BIGRUSS ( approx £230 from BMW ).

Then all that is required is to wait until such time as you can visit one of the members offering the key service. Should the worst happen and you lose the functional key, then by posting the immobiliser to a key service member, you would have a key that would start the car manually in less than three days, and less than £50. Or next time I'm heading to see my brother in Harrow......that's not far from you Brian P.S. by the way, cloning the key transponder doesn't work, which is what the bloke is offering to do for £40 |

One guy has said he would make a new key which would manually open the locks but would also be able to start the engine, does that make more sense ? Reading your bit about the transponder he has a laptop which he says is able to copy it from. Ps he us a pucker key cutter. Hope to pos catch up when your near by next . Cheers Paul

If so, then that is all that is needed You cannot copy the transponder and expect it to work permanently, as it doesn't, and I suspect he'll be using something like an AK90 key programmer for cheapness Brian |
