Default Problems with a flasher!!

Here's an odd one.

Driving home tonight I was indicating to turn left. The indicator performed normally at first. Then missed a couple of beats. Then a couple more normal flashes. THEN THE RIGHT HAND INDICATOR GAVE TWO FLASHES!!! Then back to normal. It's now done the same thing 3 times. I'm sure the cars behind me were cursing me up and down.

I'm dead p**sed off tonight between the indicators and my first IPK line!!

Any suggestions appreciated ref the indicators?

Have you used TOAF on the car? There is a setting with a double flash on the indicators.

If not, I would take the bulbs out, clean them and the holders' contacts too, making sure no corrosion is present.

Next place to consider would be the relays, again try cleaning the contacts (simply pulling it out and pushing it back in should do it). Perhaps replacing with known good ones.

Beyond that, I would be looking at various control units etc, or taking it to a T4 operator. (if you need one, there is Mark near Doagh)

The push connectors by the lights in the boot can get corroded if you have any moisture there. Some WD40 and a few push/pulls on the connectors usually clears the problem. Do the bulbs whilst you are at it.

Can't see it being setting as everything has been normal until tonight.

What control unit controls the indicators?

As far as it not being a setting, if you have connected TOAF, you may have to connect again and check if the double flash has been selected. Myself and another member have had settings changed without knowingly being selected. There may be other bugs that are random or introduced somehow. To be honest I doubt it if it was normal previous to tonight, but with the potential for unknown bugs anything is possible.

I couldnt remember the name for it, but you have said it, and Klarzy first, LSM. The panel surrounding the light switch needs to be removed(from memory, screws above the pedals, then it unclips by pulling towards the seat), and then the switch unit can be un screwed, and removed. The plug is in the back of it.

Does it do it with the hazard switch too? I cannot suggest anything more, but it may help others diagnose if that is relevant.

Car has never been connected to toaf as far as I am aware. I bought it from shiner at the end of may and I doubt if he'd have used toaf!! Hazards work fine. Please God it's not some weird issue that no one has ever experienced!!!

With any electronic / electrical oddity, your first thing to do is to try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, to reboot all of the systems.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.
