Here in Canada many people just stash an Apple Airtag in the car although theft isn't as much of a problem with older cars as it seems to be in the UK.

I just got one for my daughter's cat (furry one, not full of precious metals ) which is living with us. It's hopeless due to our being out in the sticks/boonies; it apparently relies on other iPhones being "nearby" in order to have its location updated centrally and then passed to your Apple account where the Airtag is. registered.

On that basis, I'm not so sure it would be much use in a car which would - initially at least - be moving and therefore not in bluetooth range with other mobiles for long enough. Also may be true after it arrives at its destination unless it happens to be on a street.
