I MOT'd a Corsa last year and it failed on both front drop links excessive play. I put a couple of new ones on it made by Febi. I took it for a retest and the tester asked me where I had got the drop links from as they were almost as bad as the ones that had failed a couple of hours before.

He passed it with an advise and I promptly rung my factors and they replaced them with some others.

I am afraid that a lot of mot ‘faults’ are not. They are ‘noted’ for the DVLA’s attention only. To show they are ‘doing their job’. Cynical ? You got that in one.

Judging by previous threads on front lower arm rear bushes, there will be excessive play from day one. Copying is one thing but matching quality is not there anymore.

Yes unfortunately the parts quality on a lot of the replacement parts for the 75/ZT where the original stock have gone, is very poor and in some cases totally appalling.
Even the stuff from "trusted" sources cannot be relied upon. I often get asked where to get good parts from, I used to be able to advise where to get them, these days all I can say is that I don't know, you pay your money and hope for the best.
In relation to some parts I'd rather find a good original from a scrapyard rather then some of the replacement parts as they'd probably last longer.

The lack of good replacement parts is causing more and more to be scrapped.

The reason that my daily driver now is a Volvo S60 is that all original parts are available, as almost all of the original suppliers are still in business, and the price of the original parts for it can be cheaper than the 75/ZT equivalent.
For example the front engine mount for the Volvo if you know the original supplier, can be half the Volvo price which is almost the same price as the equivalent replacement hydromount for a 75/ZT which won't be original especially if you have a diesel

I'm taking a look at this tomorrow LINK

Despite being able to perform just about any repair necessary on the ZT, I quite like the idea of being able to cut the grass for a change, take my wife to dinner, walk the dog on the beach, without................

Wondering if the part I fitted last week, will last until the end of the month.

Storing a house full of cack which I may or may not need in the future.

Make no mistake, I've run old bangers for long enough to know that the most important thing is the ability to buy good quality spare parts when they are required.

I enjoy frabbling with older cars, and enjoy running a 75, what is increasingly frustrating is the inability to source decent parts, this is the reason for looking at other marques to run as a daily.

Totally agree, that is why I now only use the MG for certain occasions, and then used the other for very special occasions and weekends during the Summer, the Black One

You know what I mean
