DIY £30-£40 for a good bearing but 3 hours and a 10 tonne press are usually a must, you will also usually destroy the abs sensor getting it out if corroded in place so count another £12 for a cheapy to £60+ for a good one. You should get a new hub nut with the bearing kit.

Best in the garage for most...
ten ton press, watch Andy Willi get them out, and in.

If you know the ABS sensor output type you could unplug each wheel, attach to a meter / appropriate supply and spin the wheel??

Obviously much easier if you have an old female ABS socket to hook up to...

I am not sure of the output type, just tried a spare I have on resistance, capacitance, mV-mA but I am sure one of the guru's can draw up the appropriate test rig for a home test kit?

My drivers side was solid, used the press at my local friendly MOT centre and it went with a right bang...

if the sensor or reluctor are breaking down you will not have a fault as the system will just assume you are skidding and the ABS is reacting properly.
As I said try a couple of cheap sensors first you can get 2 delivered for 20 quid, if it solves it straight off then great, if not then look at the bearings.
Do any of the wheels sound odd if you jack the car up and turn them by hand?

If it's the bearing/ ring that has given up the ABS light will not necessary be illuminated. I had the same symptoms and no ABS light

I'll have a look over the weekend.

From looking online it seems cheap sensors aren't recommended and that they can be a pain to fit as well. Is there a way to test them easily or is it T4 / O-Scope only?

That test will not on its own produce a conclusive result, when the ring is suspect. It is only good for confirming the sensor is at least working. What is needed to watch for - is a regular voltage transition, as the wheel is rotated at a steady speed. Any shorter than normal transitions, or any extra transitions - any irregularities.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.
