Why do people moan and grumble all the time?

Brian - next time, ride the train Indian style whilst relishing that "wind through the hair" feeling and enjoying the beautiful English countryside.

Years ago, stuck outside York station for some time, the guard/train manager or whatever they call them came on the intercom saying, "ladies and gentleman we apologise for the lengthy delay, this is due to serious underinvestment in the railways". He probably lost his job the same day.

Was on a bus a few years ago whe this drunken woman offered to do the nasty to the bus driver simply because he got her home.

Then there was the lad that had is "music" blaring out of his phone at full volume.

Yeah, public transport is cr@p.

Sadly the problem usually lies with the "public" rather than the transport

I would normally agree Jon, however the carriage I was in appeared to be fitted with square wheels........absolutely horrendous.

I could go on as to why I was taking the train in the first instance, however regardless of what is suggested in future, I will not be doing this again......ever.

London transport is mostly great. Most trains have been replaced with new. No doubt the North South divide again. The new Queen Elizabeth trains have virtually no padding on the seats, which numbs your bits something terrible. Buses seem to have same lack of padding which makes them very uncomfortable. Maybe I'll have to bring my own 'piles' ring.

It used to be fun on the central line when the train would jump in the air, which I think was near Bethnal Green.

I don't use the trains that frequently despite having free travel, dunno if its something to do with the fact that I used to drive them but I find train travel extremely boring.

The last long distance journey was an ordeal, we had to go to Torquay for a funeral, over 8 hours and unbelievably the Cross Country service from Edinburgh to Newton Abbot was a 3 car unit, absolutely heaving, had to play musical chairs all the way down.

That's because you're not driving a Deltic

Yeah, "real" trains in my day Chris, before everything became multiple units or American designed tin cans.

London to Newcastle by train, now there's a challenge for our times, and on a Sunday! gets even more interesting ( traditionally associated with high tech line maintenance work, like clearing leaves and the like, in any case which member of the family did you have to sell into slavery to be able to afford the ticket!!,
we should have one of the best rail services in the world, we do not sadly, instead we have a poor quality, expensive, slow, dirty, and generally not fit for purpose service anywhere in the world, I must admit I feel for you Brian, you are much more brave than me.
You want to see trains go to Japan, you will think you are in a different universe, they even apologise, if a train departs more than 10 secs early, and they have been doing it since the Tokyo Olympics, that was 1964.!!
