You don't need any equipment to program a key for a Mk6 Fiesta provided that you have the master key (manual key with a Blue cap at the top) & the spare key programming mode is not disabled (It's usually enable by default).

You can buy a complete key (Tibbe blade) from Ebay & get it cut as most if not all key cutting places will do it, then program the immobiliser chip & the lock/unlock function all through a sequence via the ignition using the the master key first.

No blue cap, just the one we bought the car with. The remote function hasn't worked for a while either & l read that the car can forget them if they're out of action for too long.

If it's just the remote function lost on the key you have, you can re-sync that to the car without the master key.
You only need the master key to program the immobiliser chip (so, required if you want to get a spare key).

If you need to change the battery in the key, make sure the immobiliser chip doesn't fall out!
If you're sure the battery cell is good inside the key

To programme the lock/unlock feature:

1.Sit in the drivers seat & close all doors
2.Switch ignition on & off 4 times within 6 seconds (leave the key in the ignition barrel)
3.After switching ignition off the 4th time, programming mode is activated for around 10 seconds & you should hear an audible sound
4.Press & release any of the 3 buttons on your key, you should then hear an audible sound to indicate successful programming (at this stage, you would repeat this with additional keys if you had any - maximum 4 remote & 4 manual)
5.Exit programming mode by either turning the ignition on or by waiting around 10 seconds
6.Test the key lock/unlock feature

See if that works for you.

I will do, thanks very much. First though l have to get another key to rob the centre battery contact from because our one inexplicably went AWOL, I have absolutely no idea how. It hadn't worked for a bit & when l went to change the battery it wasn't there. I looked all around me to see if it had dropped out but never found it.

Buy yourself a new complete key off of Ebay (cheap enough on there), get the blade cut, swap over your immobiliser chip & use the instructions above to setup the lock/unlock using the new circuit board in the new key.

Ok, thanks. What would l do about a second key with full remote which would obviously involve a second immobiliser chip?

Recommend you don't bother with that option. Those off Ebay are usually NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-.

First, you will struggle to get someone to cut the blade as most places won't even touch it.
I would recommend buying a new one personally.

And unless you have a T4 the remote function won't work anyway.

Buy a new one.
Xpart will sort you out and it will come prematched to your cars VIN.

This was regarding a Ford key so T4 would be useless here!

I've purchased uncut keys for Ford, Rover 75/MG ZT etc before & never had a problem getting them cut.
