Log burner - anyone want some timber
I had a 30 foot tree come down in the gale, quite spindly at the top, but thicker at the bottom - too big to manage with my biggest bow saw, maybe around 12", so it needs a chain saw to tackle the bottom few feet.
I have already cut off all of the smaller branches. If there is anyone local to me with a chain saw and a log burner stove, you are welcome to it, with some help from me, plus free tea and bacon butties.

Hi Harry, What sort of tree was it? Might be worthwhile if it's a hardwood - might be burnable next season with sufficient drying.

I have no idea really. We have several silver birch next to it and it wasn't silver birch, or willow. It has a course, rough bark is about as much as I know. It had spread sideways blocking access to the extreme rear of the garden, so I cut a limb off and trimmed it back a couple of decades ago. My trimming seems to have caused rot at the base which weakened it and down it came. I suppose I could take a photo of a leaf and try to ID from that..
