Default write off due to no silly part

No matter what it is, vehicle, washing machine, DVD player etc I find it very frustrating, to have to write it off because a silly cheap part is no longer available.

I have a brand new scalextric car, no longer available in the shops as it was deleted a few years ago that's now useless due to the concentric gear having split. A tuppeny-ha'penny item!

I have to hope that Hornby either make a run of spares or in some form release a car that uses this axle/gear.

Totally agree but this is how manufacturers keep there factories busy, I had to bin a perfectly good washing machine a couple of years ago because the hinge had been superseded and this meant I had to buy a new door to match, total cost nearly £160. I could buy a brand washing machine new for not a lot more so that is what we did.

A friend has a Renault awaiting a part, Renault no longer make this part, no aftermarket parts and all the used ones seem to have the same fault. The part is a circuit board that controls the warning lights on the dash and without it the car wont pass an MOT. Its not even a matter of soldering a piece on as there a processor built into the board and this fails.

How many cars go to scrap because of a faulty resistor or diode causing a warning light to be on or not work when it should. Such a waste.

Have you tried this company? I have been amazed at what they have. My father collected scalextric decades ago, and looking at prices of some parts and cars we had is shocking (124 type jag, boxed, and barely used, or how about 6 typhoons? And a couple of the sidecars with rider on the opposite side!). Anyway, I have seen on that site, parts and 'scrapyards' that were obscure back in the day.so they may be able to help.
