Default Cooling fan Gold resistor and automatic gearbox

Hi Folks.
I've certainly mounted in the past a gold resistor on my manual CDTi but I am aware that cars with automatic transmission have a different fan assembly.
As I will probably tomorrow collect an Automatic CDTi with the fan not working on first speed, I wonder if the problem is the same of the manual ones, I mean could be the resistor on automatics as well or I have so search elsewhere for the issue?
Thank You

If you can see resistor between fan wings, it means this same type of fan. I have CDTi with automatic gearbox and I fixed resistor last month, works perfect.

That's not true as a general rule Canio. As far as the resistor circuit is concerned, it is the same on cars with both manual gearboxes and automatic transmission.

The one quirk is the 1.8T automatic. According to RAVE this has an additional transmission cooler fan, but the word 'Turbo' is missing from the wiring diagram leading readers to believe that all 1.8 automatics have it.

I have two R75, one is manual, one is auto and i fitted gold resistor to both of them. Works like a charm...

Basically, if you see the old resistor through the grill, you can refit it...

Thank You Simon. I've just seen the Rimmers website and found out that they quote the same fan assembly for 1.8. T and 75 CDTi automatic with different part numbers of the ones quoted for manual cars...
and that's the doubt I had.

I can't find that Canio. Could you post me a link please?

Rover 75/MG ZT Oil/Air Cooler - Diesel https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001592 - Fan cowl PGF106900
Rover 75/MG ZT Fan - Diesel https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001602 - looks like a different design and parts are split, maybe motors are the same ?
Automatics got two fan motors, one for the engine and atc and one other for the automatic transmission oil cooler; After 11 years of ownership I'm still not quite prepared on Rover 75's :-)

This is a transmission fluid/air cooler fitted on very early diesels only. It was superseeded by a fluid/engine coolant cooler. In both cases the radiator fan is the same as on a diesel with a manual gearbox, which was your original point.

This is the diesel radiator fan assembly; the same for both manual cars and automatics.
I don't know what you mean by "different design" and "parts are split". Can you be more specific and I'll try to answer.

No they didn't, not as a general rule.
As I've said, only the 1.8T and very early diesel automatics had separate arrangements for ATF cooling. In both cases the radiator fan assembly, with or without resistor, is no different from an equivalent manual gearbox car.

I hope that this has cleared up your original claim that cars with automatic transmission have a different fan assembly (meaning the radiator fan). They don't!

I’ve got 2 diesel Autos, both different fan types and no 2nd fan.
