Default diesel oil use

was checking the oil level in my diesel 75 and noticed the oil level was down a little (about half way between full and low mark) since last oil change 5,000km
ago.
No smoke or any running issues, been doing alot of 600km trips at 110kph.
Is this normal to use a small amount of oil on a diesel over 5,000km?
As said cars running perfectly, its done 230,000km so i guess theres gotta be some wear.

Never had any oil loss in our diesels except for when the gasket on the oil return from the turbo failed.

This caused a slight drop in the reading on the dipstick.

I would pop a new PCV filter in it & see how it goes, as Andy said they very rarely need oil top ups

As the others have said Diesel models don't normally use any oil at all

Check for leaks and check/change the PCV filter

My Range Rover 6 cylinder BMW M51 diesel used to use a little oil between services when it had done about 90K miles , but changing to fully synthetic oil from the semi specified, reduced it considerably . At Rover we felt some BMW engines used more oil than Rover designed ones.

looking at the car, been away for 5 weeks in new zealand so the cars been sitting
on the driveway - which is on a slight slope to the rear so maybe the reading is a slight bit out because of that?
These dip sticks are hard to get an accurate reading from.
As for the pcv , changed that a while back to the bmw modified one.

I have never topped mine up between oil changes. Even after a 2,000 mile trip in very hot weather to the Loire.

Me neither, and that is on an engine that has always had 15k oil changes and has now done over 402k miles.
