Default Canvey Island Bus Rally October 2014

Had a great day out learning about all the different buses and coaches that were on show.

Many thanks for Leopard680 'Stu' for inviting me along and making it a great day out

I bet there were a few unusual characters there (besides you two I mean) bus rallies do attract a certain "type"

Would have gone but I come from the home of Dennis buses but there was no indication if one of their buses would be there.
So went to the meet at The Star, Leatherhead, instead, after all at least I was guaranteed to se one of Yeti's MGs.

I was at Dennis last open day and I just amazed where all these buses came from our local bus company ran all Dennis so I suspect most of the collectors come from this area

Some of the busses had come a fair distance so maybe the Rally was only for certain marques

I'm only guessing as I don't know one Bus from another....although Stu imparted a lot of information so I do know a lot more now than I did before

Hi Derek,

Had a chat with Stu and he explained the lack of Dennis busses

"No local operators ran Dennis vehicles; indeed; Dennis almost gave up bus production in the 'eighties! The big players were Leyland, AEC, Guy, Bristol* and Daimler the first three were in the same organisation from 1962! Daimler joined BL in 1968 I think. *Bristol available to state owned operators only... The new dawn for Dennis came in the late 'eighties with the Dart midibus. Here is a picture of a Dennis as a form of compensation; this was from Alton earlier this year!"
