From BBC News Website:
Chinese-made MG cars go on sale The Chinese-made models will only be available in the domestic market Chinese-made MG cars will go on sale in China next month, the brand's new owner has said. The cars - priced between $23,000 (£11,482) and $40,000 - will make their official debut at 50 dealerships, Nanjing Automobile Corporation said. Although the brand is relatively unknown in China, more than 3,000 orders have been placed for MG models. NAC bought MG Rover in 2005, after the UK company went bankrupt with the loss of 6,000 jobs. At the time of the purchase, NAC said it planned to produce the cars in China to meet rising demand as the country's economy expanded. NAC then shipped much of MG Rover's production machinery from its UK plant in Longbridge to a site 200 miles from Shanghai. The Chinese plant, which was inaugurated in March, largely produces the MG 7 series, which is going on sale only in the domestic market, a spokesman added. Malcolm |
