If this method is used please use a rag/cloth to hold over the two ports other wise fuel can spill out, good method if you do not have anyone to help, or you do not have a vice if the top is to tight, few pics below

Note from the first pic how the flat edge is right up next to the battery the reason why you would have to raise it before turning.

Also when re-fitting make sure no hose or wires get trapped under the filter, I have removed some that have had the fuel line trapped under.
Hi Steve. I agree with you that some of the filters ( my friends) are nearer to the battery than mine is, so would have to raise the filter and tighten the clamp back up before undoing the filter slightly. Also agree with putting some rags under the filter area to catch any spillages of diesel. I always check the bottom of the filter area is clear of the various pipes that are underneath.
Your knowledge and photo's for carrying out this operation are, as usual, perfect examples of how when possible, the real enthusiast's help to maintain these iconic cars. Thank Steve.

Gents metric bolts are sized according to the diameter of the thread, and the head size will vary depending on the standard used.

Only mention it as I saw a thread where the '10mm' bolts in the engine bay had gone rusty and someone was advised to order new ones.

Had he bought M10 bolts he would have been a tad disappointed, so best to help everyone by making it plain when talking about the head size of bolts.

To add to your post Steve, where I take my car to be Mot'd, known them for around 30 years or more, If I wanted to, they take the fuel filter off and put a full dose, same amount that you put in for a full tank, of Redex Injector cleaner. My car has very low emissions because I use the same every two tanks of diesel, which shows at mot time. So i agree with your statement that it is ok to put cleaner in fuel filter when changing it.

Quick snap shot of my last mot 17/9/15 of gas blast measurements. I drop redex in the fuel every 4 months at a total fill up.

hi
I'm looking at using the forte treatment. Do you add the full 400ml to the empty fuel filter?
Then crank engine for how long before leaving to soak overnight?

Then next morning start and rev engine on drive for a few mins? or take it out for a run down the motorway for a junction?

Just want to get it right in my head before I do it!
Cheers H.

Hi Howard.
Sorry for the late reply yes drop the lot into the fuel filter, prime the fuel filter by turning the ignition key to II for about 20 seconds turn ignition off repeat the priming, this time turn key off and start the car run for about 10 - 15 seconds and leave over night.

Next day drive it like you stole it, Italian tune up going through the gears.

Any opinions on this stuff?

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/ca...7370&0&cc5_862

I picked some up with the rest of the service bits from e.c.p. with the 25% off this weekend.
(They don't sell the forte)

Another thread that needs the photo's editing, late answer for the OP above but Forte is best you can get it off the bay, never used the one from your link cheers Arctic

Hi all
I’ve just had catastrophic fuel explosion under the bonnet! Had the car serviced just last week and after a bit of hard throttle off the motorway smelled fuel. Pulled up at home and a high pressure leak from the front of the filter. Diesel EVERYWHERE !!!!
Looks like the white plastic clip has failed but I’ve googled it to death and can’t source one? Any help please????
