Just a thought, what will happen if our struts have weakened with age? Will the boot just open very quickly and it'll be obvious? It's just that I expect to find mine are deficient in some way, much in keeping with the rest of the car

If your struts are that worn out that you have to hold the boot lid up, then they might not work in slowing the spring action down. If you can still feel some resistance when you lift the boot lid quickly then you should be ok.
You would soon know if your struts are totally shot as the boot will be pretty heavy

Plenums, bonnet release mod, handbrake compensator (arctic), rear parking sensors, coolant level sensor (Vindaloo), DRL's, Fan resistor upgrade ( Jules), Marmite lighting, Auto dimming rear view mirror, twin horns, fog lights, real walnut dash, walnut gear knob, Sean DD unit with DVB-T, message centre ipk, electric sun blind, auto opening boot lid, walnut steering wheel, electric seats

Hi could you put me down for option 1 please, I have a boot rack fitted so if it lifts that then all is well and if they don't the I can at least put them on my lst of mod's

Hi mate, i would be after option 2 and would be prepared to come to your house for you to do the swap over. Thus giving you the exchange units immediately. Incidently, i have a Mk1 with the boot spoiler, would also need the remote mod. PM me your address if interested. I am in your area on Jun 2 if available. Cheers. Vinnie
