Default Difficulty engaging gear, but no clutch fluid loss

I have noticed a difficulty engaging gears recently (some days worse than others), which I though may be fault with the master or slave cylinders. However, the fluid level on the master cylinder seems normal at around 15mm off the top of the reservoir (measured with the black rubber bung removed). Could there be a problem with the master or slave cylinders even though they aren't leaking? or a gear selector problem?

Is the same difficulty with or without engine running ?

gear selection gets very slightly easier with engine switched off. It is a very intermittent fault though

I've noticed mine is a bit like that.

Its worse when its around town and I tend to rest my foot more on the clutch and not let it return all the way up when changing lots of gears. I might get it bled to see if that helps, sometimes its a ok, sometimes its a bit of a pig.

Maybe a gearbox fluid change would help?

It could also be the first seal on the master cylinder on its way out. This would let the fluid return into the reservoir but can get slightly better when the fluid heats up allowing the seal to expand and seal better.

Or it could just need bled.

I had exactly the same problem this week, I had a new master cylinder fitted 2 weeks ago by lates 600. It worked fine for the first week, topped it up then after a couple of days it became difficult to change gear. The oil level had not dropped so I bled the system and it is like driving a new car.

You may have an airlock in the system follow this how too below,
http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...read.php?t=156

It is much easer if you undo the the lid to the air filter box remove it and move it up so you can get to the bleed nipple below.

Regards,
Anthony.

Thanks for the advice. Its not bad engaging gear from cold but once I have been driving for 15/20 mins it gets worse, particularly 1st and R. I'll get the fluid changed & bled. Presumably if it persists I get the master cylinder changed (£129 for a LUK on Fleabay & labour), but could it still could be an inefficient slave? Luckily my 55 mile journey to work down the A1 only requires a handful of gearchanges

Bet progress is a bit slow with the engine turned off though, still, fuel consumption should be great.
(O.K. O.K. know what you mean
