A legend when I was a yob, in the bar near my Dad's group, everybody's "claim to fame" on the way home in the bus. A gentleman of the game.

Deeply saddened to hear of his sudden passing. His achievements in English and Irish football are immense. His reputation in Britain & Ireland is legendary. Our nations’ thanks. RIP Jack.

One of the giants of UK & Irish football. I remember watching him as a kid as a player and as an adult as a manager. A towering defender and a man, to my mind as a Scotsman a honest and straight forward player and man. RIP

You’re right there about being honest. The times I spoke to Jack, he didn’t mince his words,he would tell it like it was. I never treated him any differently to any other customers, but he never really wanted to chat to me as I wasn’t interested in football or fishing. My late uncle fished with him once, as in they were sat next to each other on the same lake.
