Default How often do you decorate?

How often do you decorate the same room?
Living in a property you don't always notice it deteriorating and then when you do, there is so much to do as it is not one room that needs doing but a few.

Our house hasn't been decorated for years, I hate it and I'm not that good at it anyway. (No patience).
The Mrs refuses to let me have friends round as the place is so bad, but I refuse to decorate when the place meeds(bottoming) by a professional decorator and starting from scratch, then we can keep on top of it ourselves.

Whenever the wife tells me I have to

OK, in reality, when I get sick to death of her nagging me to do it...

And the truth:
Living room, dining room, hall 5yr ish.........

Bedrooms: second line of this post
Hate it.

Been in our present home for 4 years and the lounge has already had a freshen up and bedroom will probably be done before too long..
I quite enjoy decorating especially hanging wall paper..

I have a notice in my hall which states:-

"Excuse the mess, we're busy having a life"

God.
I've been 'decorating' for about the last 7 years. Decorated our flat from end-to-end (including the stairway and shared hallway) and no sooner finished that we moved. New house has been getting blitzed top to bottom. Just finished the kitchen/ dining room, a back to the bare block-work project.
Next step to knock out the sitting room. Once I do that I can build my garage!
We tend to have a lot of white on our walls. Seem to get about 2-3 years before things get a bit scruffy and need refreshed.

We have a workaholic builder son in law who does ours to keep himself busy. Front room is done every 5 years. As I say to the wife, what's the point, it will only get mucky again. Apparently colours go out of fashion, who'd have thought it!!! When I suggest respraying the car a different colour I get 'that' look.

Default It feels like...

I think I'm living on the Forth bridge...
I'm doing the hall, stairs and landing right now and then freshening up the dining room. I have found something interesting about paint during the process, I used Dulux gloss White in the living room and it's Yellowing after eighteen months, I used the Dulux gloss White primer first on the coving and the woodwork, it's the woodwork that's Yellowing, the coving is still bright White but has the Matt finish. I'm going to paint the woodwork with the primer and then use a water based varnish to give it the shine, I reckon it won't go Yellow if I'm right.

Won’t even clear varnish give it a yellowish tinge from outset?

I don’t use gloss on woodwork now, I use a soft sheen, put on with a brush, and then go over it straightaway with a small sponge roller, to get rid of the brush marks. Gives a slight stippled finish, almost as if it’s been sprayed on, which I like.
