Default Oil Change Sump Plug Washer

Just drained the oil from my recently acquired 75 CDT and the
sump plug was mighty tight with no kind of sealing washer at all.

Should it have one ?.

I have a box of various size copper washers, so can fit one if there should be one.

Oh and anyone got the Sump Plug torque please. Thanks

Quick answer would be appreciated please, so I can get it back
together lol

Cheers

The original is made of aluminium , and the P/N is ALU1403..........I always have loads in stock, but can never find them

I've started sellotaping them to the filter boxes as an aide memoir

Anyway it's a bit late now, but the combination of copper and aluminium isn't a good idea, as the aluminium of the sump will act as a sacrificial anode

There should be one in the box of the new oil filter - but most aftermarket manufacturers seem to include a washer too small which fits other applications of the same filter rather than our cars.

They're just a standard M14 aluminium washer; we include one with every filter we sell.

You can always fit an ally washer at the next oil change. Nothing is going to corrode away between now and then.--

With the amount of oil that is going to end up on the copper washer when it's being fitted I would guess nothing will corrode anyway.---

You're right, I bought a Borg & Beck Oil Filter locally here in the Isle of Man and it had a copper washer with the filter that was miles too small lol.

The sump nut had previously been over-tightened, I assume to try and compensate for bodging back on without a washer

Well I've fitted a copper washer the correct size, and like has been said, it will have some oil on it, so sure it will be fine. Never had a problem using copper washers on sump plugs in the last 36yrs doing oil changes
