Default Ireland = Overseas?

Since my next job wil probably make me move to the ROI, I just wonder if there are Rover 75 drivers around on the beautiful Isle of Eire?
Apart from one Rover dealer (was still signposted as ROVER) halfway between Cork and Dublin on the N8 (can't remember the place, but remember the ROVER sign), are there still other (independent??) Garages (or people with a T4) left in the Irish Republic???

Hi Karsten

You will be more than welcome to Ireland - especially if you bring your Rover 75 with you . There are a few Irish members on here.

As for dealers, have you looked here?: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/inde...ge=dealers-ire. I don't know how many are still operating but my experience of those locally to me is as follows:

Cahir Motor Company - Tipperary: had an operating T4 12 months ago and still do parts
Minogues Garage - Kilkenny: I think this is the one that you referred to in your post. It is located on the main Dublin/Cork road in Urlingford, Co. Kilkenny. I am just back from them now would you believe!! Had to get a few clips for my chrome waistline strip. They still do parts but their T4 is not functioning.
Cleary's car Centre - Limerick & Clare - This is where I bought my CDTi in 2006. They still have the T4 and parts.

Where will you be located if you move over here?

I will be located in Dublin City, but since my partner ilives in Cork, you will find me there as well. I hope the "new" N8 will be completed soonish... just to ease the trip.

And yes, I will bring my Rover over ;-)

BTW: How much is roadtax in Eire...? In UK it's 180 quid per year. I understand that Ireland is a bit more expensive.

You should have no trouble getting a T4 or parts in Dublin.

The N8 motorway (the M8) will be a while yet - at least a year I would think.

You are in for some shock when you go to tax your car: https://www.motortax.ie/mtoapp/pdf/m...es_2008_en.pdf

Looks like €899 for your 2.5L (assuming its slightly less than 2.5L). Maybe you won't be bringing the Rover after all .

Let me know if you need any more info/help.

Angry

eight hundred and ninety nine????????
That is about 600 quid?!?!?!?!

For one year?

I did not wanted to sell my Rover to the equivalent of the Irish DVLA or whatever they call themselves.

But then again, the Rover is such a beautiful car and so nice to drive, I will keep her ... no chance to buy another car with a smaller engine. To have the similar amount of car tax, I would just be able to get me a Nissan Micra

I'm afraid it worse than that. According to xe.com its more like £675. The €uro has risen a lot against the pound in the past few months.

A little bit of good news is that petrol is cheaper. I filled up with diesel a few days back and both petrol and diesel were €1.10 per litre - about 82p.

I hope I'm not putting you off moving over here .

Nope, you didn't.

I already signed the contract. Still... I can afford it - hopefully ....And fuel being that cheap helps.
Cheapes fuel over here is just £1 per litre.

Can't you keep your Car registered and Taxed at Parents over here?
Mobile Phones are the same as you have to pay for International Rates for both Talk and messages.

The customs would probably be after you.

Would your UK insurance cover you for an extended period over here?

Legally, you have to register your car the following working day you arrive in the ROI, but I think that an address in the UK or in NI might not be a bad idea, either.

Then again, I do not want to risk it. Need my car for my job ...
