I have a face-lift MG estate, 2 litre diesel. Yesterday, left Paris, and about an hour from our destination of Morzine, the engine started to make a noise. It's sort of thud thud noise and is speed related. At rest, the engine sounds fine, but as the car gains speed, the noise increases. There's no loss of power, there's no smoke from the exhaust. There's no noise from the brakes. We carried on with the noise, which didn't get worse or affect performance and arrived at our destination. I know of a former MG/Rover dealership in Vougy and will take the car there.
Do you have any ideas what the problem is before I go to the garage?
Many thanks.
So what happened, how did you resolve the problem?

I suspect it is (was) a tyre issue.

I'm wondering if its your bearing! listen to the noise as you turn corners. Make a mental note of listening as you make left and right hand turns . Does it stop ? is it significantly quieter? if so its the bearing. Inexpensive .

He's not been back on to say if the fault is cured or not, or what it was since the 16th of August when he first posted his question, so I'll guess we'll never know the cause, or the solution.

It would have been nice to know the outcome. If anyone has the same symptoms it's all valuable advice and group support.

I hope he comes back with a good outcome.

Why don't we all pray that it's one of the more serious suggestions causing the problem so the OP has to come back and give an update/ask for further help.

Re: your last point.

Why think positively and sympathetically when there is so much pleasure to be had thinking otherwise?
