Default How fast would I have been going?

I know the digital displays are not 100% accurate so I think this is more "fun" than factual.

Yesterday the range display, how many miles I could go with the fuel I had, was counting down a mile every 15 seconds. This seemed awfully quick.
How fast would I have had to have been going? MPG was showing 43mpg.

Lets assume I was doing 43mpg and the range was going down by a mile every 15 seconds.

My mind is blank on how to work it out

60 mph is a mile a minute.
Therefore a mile covered in 15 seconds equates to a speed of 240 mph.

thank you. i'v asked a question, gotten and answer and now I'm going to query the answer... perhaps not the smartest thing.
You have put a mile covered in 15 seconds but it was not my mileage trip going up a mile every 15 seconds but my fuel range was going down every 15 seconds. Is it still 240mph?

No, not 240 mph.

The fuel range depends on how much throttle you are giving your car.

Lots of throttle= low range per tank full.

Light throttle= large range per tank full.

Or per gallon if you prefer.----

Must have been going full throttle uphill on a cold engine in a massive headwind on under-inflated tires.

fair point, I agree
dash cam said 70 mph, cruise control set, engine hot, flat or incline but not a hill of any significance.

so lets go on the flat, hot engine, enough throttle to do 70, wind?????

Range also varies in direct proportion to gallons remaining in the tank and fuel consumption.
Furthermore, gallons remaining is a function of speed, elapsed time and MPG so unless you're a whiz at differential calculus, you're stuffed.

Does that help? - probably not!
