k series Head gaskets.
Hello all,
I am asking in general about the best head gaskets to use on the 4 pot k series engines. I am replacing the head gasket on my rover 100 (late metro) it has 1.4 single port injection k series. what would you suggest the best head gasket for that engine? Thank you Josh

I always buy the elastomer type, never had any bother and that’s what I’ve fitted to my track r25. Isn’t troubled by slightly uneven liner heights or low liners and will seal less than perfect heads and decks from water and oil.
Countless people buy and successfully use the multilayer but buy from a reputable seller, I’ve had problems with them in the past. If you’ve got the head off and are able to measure the liner heights if they’re all above 3 thou and are level you can use either. Less than 3 use an elastomer.

This Guide to K-series head gaskets might be useful. I'd also go for the elastomer.
https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/pages/choosi...ead-gasket-kit They're all available from DMGRS here on the forum. TC |

The age of your car indicates if original your engine is an K series with have wet liners, which was before the floating liners where introduced to take the engine up to 1.8
This helps some of the associated issues . I would also recommend to replace with an elastomer gasket ,they are more forgiving than MLS gaskets for imperfections on the head or the block and have seen numerous times coolant leaks between the layers with a MLS Last edited by TourerSteve; 16th March 2021 at 08:17.. |

As already said, go for the Elastomer item.
Either opt for the one that DMGRS sells, or the Payen item. Both of these head gaskets are better than the original Elastomer. Make sure you check the head face. Personally, I always get the head skimmed but I know there are others that choose not to (I don't want this to create a big discussion as has been done so many times before). Use new head bolts (stretch type & again, my personal opinion & something I always do). |

Our Elastomer gasket (a BW750 clone, with a little more quality control) is our weapon of choice these days - we no longer stock the Payen item due to repeated issues with faulty gaskets.
Our version of the BW750 is well-priced, cheap enough to be an option for everybody and the quality is A1. It'll be great on your engine
