Rover 75 kv6 2.0 2002 noise at 1800-2000 rpm
Hi folks,
my Rover 75 kv6 2.0 2002 makes bad metallic noise at 1800-2000 rpm. It makes it both cold and hot, at idle and in motion. First video - first cold start, almost no metallic noise: https://youtu.be/-TcyHQJ1lZc Second video - second cold start, a lot more metallic noise: https://youtu.be/ua_xWyA3KQ0 I’ve changed all exhausts after the cats. Could it be anything else that the cats? Thanks! |

Hello Ivan,
It's always risky trying to make a diagnosis from a sound recording but I would ask what is the current mileage and do you have evidence that the timing belt tensioner and idler pulleys have been renewed (if so, at what mileage)? Simon

Hi Simon,
~160000 miles. Timing belt was changed 1year ago (less then 6000 miles) but I have no info on tensioner and pulley Maybe they can be inspected? Thanks |

Also, it is not doing it consistently. Sometimes it doesn’t make this noise but most of the time it does. Sometimes it’s doing it at 1000-1100 rpm while cold ideling.
Dave, if this is cat, only changing could help right? I don’t want to just remove the cat but changing would cost a lot I guess. |

Perhaps one of the exhaust heat shields has corroded and is resting on the exhaust.

If you could pin-point it to the Cat then maybe a screw driven into the side might stop the rattle that others have reported doing on here.---

I'm going to guess at the exhaust support bracket that fixes to the engine, they are known to break and rattle.
