Default 160 V6 and 190 exhaust - different or not?

I have read that the 190 had a larger diameter exhaust at 60mm than the 160 v6 which had a 57mm exhaust.

However the exhaust on my 2002 160 v6 measured 60mm.

Is it a myth about the 190's having a larger exhaust?

Is the exhaust on your 2002 V6 160 the original factory fitment Ashley?

For what it's worth, Rimmer Bros, which gets its information from MG Rover, shows all ZT front sections as. being "application Rover", the intermediate section being applicable to all ZTs irrespective of engine spec., and it is only the rear silencer/tailpipe which has different versions for the 160 and 180/190 engines. Have a look here.

95% sure its the original exhaust with the exception of the back box which I fitted. It is all one piece from the front to just before the back box which was cut and replaced.

Thinking of buying a genuine back box from DMGRS to replace the awful cheap back box thats fitted (Rover 75 diesel style I think as tail pipe points down).
But I will need to buy a suitable 60mm centre section as this is cracked an blowing.

Hi Ashley,

I agree that the one piece section will be original, judging by the sectional genuine MGR replacements offered by Rimmer's. As your 160 is a slightly de-tuned Rover engine, we should expect the exhaust to match but the rear silencer/tailpipe could be larger diameter.

By the way, both the original Rover KV6 and diesel tailpipes are swept downwards and concealed behind the valence.

The 57/60mm thing seems to be a mystery - I've seen cars that should have one fitted with the other many times now.
I just tell customers to measure up before-hand, or order both and return the one they don't need!
