The bonnet release on my 2.5 was the same when I got it. I took the complete locking mechanism off, and disassembled it completely. I then cleaned it up and greased it and reassembled it. Just like a new mechanism it was nice and smooth and the pull handle went fully back, like it should do.

I've oiled the half moons a few times but maybe I need to give them a more thorough clean as you all suggest. Will get on it asap... thank you!

I personally keep my half moon sliders clean, and spray them each month with carb cleaner, as any form of grease will attract grit and dirt, it is the inside of the latches that need the grease
Silicone is also ok and after you have used it on the moons, use it on all the rubber door seals, it will help in the winter to stop the door from sticking.
