Default Going for a ride...

So the new rules say you can you out any distance as long as its just for the day, so am I right in assuming I can go for a spin in the ZT after tomorrow? Living on my own and going nowhere I'm going stir crazy and a spin in the old girl might cheer me up. I don't mean miles and miles, just a spin, and not to a beauty spot or anywhere crowds would go. Don't care if I don't even get out the car! Distancing not an issue when you're alone.

Pretty sure that's allowed now.

Absolutely allowed, and I never knew why it wasn't before. Personal space in the car is as safe as your home, if not more so. I propose to go out with a picnic packed, and find a bush if necessary!!!

In case you have an accident or breakdown perhaps.
There was an accident about a mile away from me a week ago, police and ambulance attended. That could have been at least 4 other people front line emergency personnel contaminated if the victim was infected.

I think the thinking was that the more cars on the roads the more accidents there will be and you end up tying up ambulances and NHS staff which could be better employed sorting out Covid 19

Previously going for a spin was frowned on as you might:
  • Go for petrol
  • Have a breakdown and meet the RAC man
  • Have a prang and meet the breakdown man/ ambulance man/ copper/ end up needing a trip to hospital.
Now seems Hospitals under less pressure, and time to get the Nation moving again before every small business vanishes for good.Enjoy your day out- good for you and the car.

That seems the same to me, however I do find it amusing seeing lone drivers, whilst out on my daily walk, wearing face masks !

Don’t know whether I dare go out in the 3 wheeler yet though, as it’d obviously be a ‘pleasure’ journey. Pity really, as it’s been serviced and given a good clean in the last couple of months!

We are allowed pleasure journeys now, though. It's on page 27 of the rules. You can go ANY distance as long as not Wales, Scotland etc, and as long as you don't stay over. So a picnic like coolguy is doing is totally allowed.

I only plan on a short drive somewhere, though. Got to be sensible! I have a caravan at the coast. Technically, now I can drive there, sit on the beach all day and then come home and its okay, but I can't go to my caravan!

I get going to the caravan is wrong, but personally I think allowing people to go to beaches is still a bit of a no no! I certainly won't be going for the day!

Dawn you are right and the change is an official recognition of the needs of people. As to accidents etc - they do and will continue to happen regardless. Enjoy your drive its a lovely day and Im sure you deserve a break. Chris.S.
