Alarm horn sounds when washers activated!
A "funny" thing happened on the way to London a few days ago, the car's first long run after lots of repairs and upgrade work. Not long into the journey, I fired the windscreen washers to give the glass a bit of a clean and nearly died of fright as the alarm horn - which I didn't know it had - went BLAAAM BLAAAM.
After initially fearing the worst (that the ECU was about to explode ), I tried it again and sure enough, the alarm horn blammed twice and then stopped even although the washer stalk was still be pulled. I checked through everything else that mattered (lights, indicators, brakes etc) but everything seemed fine, so I kept driving and tried to come up with some logical explanation (I failed). The horn didn't sound on a few subsequent washer activations but did it about an hour later when I tried it again. I drove back yesterday and it hasn't happened since. My only thoughts have been water ingress into something but the car's not been subject to heavy rain here for the past 3 weeks or so. Mind you, just thinking about it, I did have it jet-washed the day before I left. Any ideas? Dougie.

Do you have or have you retrofitted headlamp powerwash? There is a relay that operates either the standard alarm horn or the headlamp powerwash pump. When retrofitting powerwash a T4 (maybe TOAF?) has to tell the relay its function has changed, that's why when retrofitting the powerwash system the standard alarm horn has to be replaced with a BBUS (battery back up sounder) which is an electronic siren.

There are in fact no headlamp washers fitted on the car.

Sorted. Not a hugely difficult job in the end. I pulled the connector from the alarm horn.
Dougie.
