Default Oh no!

On a grass verge waiting for a recovery. Auxiliary drive belt snapped while Mrs Andy was driving home from work.
It's not far from home soi she walked, I've gone back to rover now with flask of tea to wait. Could be 90 minutes...

Got home 20 minutes ago. Recovery man lives about 1/2 mile from me, i drive past him most days. I actually think it took more time to report the breakdown, than the bloke took to get me home.

Off out to get a curry, tummy is rumbling

At least it snapped so a cheap and easy fix. Mine came off due to the water pump bearing collapsing.

Hi Andy.
I wonder if the leak from the PS had anything to do with it ? maybe change the compressor belt at the same time if i were you.

Went outside this morning at 8:30 to take my daughter to school and to go to euro carparts and had contend with this in my van.
Seems I picked up more than a curry last night...
It never rains, it pours. Had to spend another 1/2 hour changing a wheel before I went anywhere.

The joys of motoring are wearing off

I was thinking the same thing Steve.
Probably 4 years since I last changed the belts.

I've been to euro carparts this morning and bought both belts, paid about £10 more but I need them today and they were in stock.
Having lunch now and then going to start sorting it out.

The old belt was a real mess, will stick up photos later.
Changed AC belt, quite straight forward and easy.
I didn't manage to get aux belt on last night, was a real devil and got too dark.

Modified my 24 mm spanner with a grinder to make it slimmer, which helped, but just couldn't seem to get enough leverage on tensioner.

Is better to lever tensioner from above or below?

Can't remember exactly how I did it 4 years ago, but recall my neighbour helped me and it involved a few jammed fingers and lots of struggling and swearing. He's moved now so I cant ask him...

I prefer to lever the tensioner from below, as that way I don't have to remove anything other than the undertray.

A few photos of the state of the belt, or what was left of it...

Off now to the garage to have the tracking checked which I'd had booked last week, ironically had it been drivable I'd have let them do the belts too, I saved a few quid at least

AC belt had got a bit kinked having dragged sections of the auxiliary belt under it.
