Suspension identification
Morning all
I have a leaky damper on the n/s rear and the o/s front is not looking to good. Looking under the rear seat I find my label is missing. So is there any way of finding out what I should fit or if I change front dampers and springs and rear dampers what is the best codes/combination to go for. Mg zt cdti. Stan

If you have at least one original spring fitted, you may be able to find a spot of paint on the rear spring or two spots next to each other on the fronts, usually on one of the middle coils. These will tell you the colour code and you should be able to work out what dampers you need from that.
quite often the outer coating on the spring is long gone though or the paint marks are in a position that's hidden without removing them but it's worth a look. It doesn't rule out the wrong parts being fitted in the past though. Mine has red and brown on the fronts and light green on the rear, this is comfort spec for diesel and V6. The dampers also have a label on them but were unreadable on mine so no idea if the part number is printed on them but if you have sport spec springs you will should have sport spec dampers too so the colour code of the springs will tell you what you need. Both my near side springs had the paint visible. This is just what I have learned from doing my own investigations into what springs and shocks, I could be mistaken about it but the paint spots match what is printed on the label under my rear seat. Thanks guys , looked through the Rimmers page and narrowed it down a bit.
Am I right in thinking that the kv6 had the same as the cdti , at least on the front. I know that mine has had 1 new spring fitted to the rear as when I got the car and had the mot done , the tester mentioned it to me. As for the rest of it ????? I'm taking all the wheels off tomorrow as if you do the finger test I can fit 2 fingers between the n/s rear arch and tyre but 3 on the o/s . The front is the same , 2 on n/s , 3 on o/s. Also when I was changing the drop links the arb was twisted,so something is amiss under there

Fronts
O/s front is a Delphi shock with qk code but can't id the spring.
N/s front is a Sachs unit-32-L21-A , again can't id the spring but looking at the pics there is a huge difference in the springs. _20180714_153028.jpg _20180714_153050.jpg

quite a miss match of parts you have there
from the two delphi shocks you have, it seems you have comfort spec suspension so your colour codes should be brown/red for the fronts and light green for the rears, green/brown isn't on the list of rear springs. Part numbers should be; Front spring - REB000890 Front Damper RH - RNB001040 Front damper LH - RNB001050 Rear spring - RKB000241 Rear damper - RPD000151 I got genuine front shocks from vitesse-ltd for less than Rimmers and free postage. £160 for both fronts Last edited by EdgarDonaldBalls; 14th July 2018 at 15:24.. |
