Phantom phone
Any ideas on how to cure this one? Every now and again my Symphony unit cuts out and comes up with the message 'PHONE MUTE'. I can't turn the unit off and the problem doesn't even go away when the engine is turned off. The only way to get the message to go away is by disconnecting the battery for a few seconds. I wouldn't mind but I don't even have a phone in the car (You couldn't pay me to have one of the damned things!) and as far as I can tell it's never had one fitted. All the obvious connections seem to be secure. My neighbours must think I've got a pig of a car because I'm constantly looking under the bonnet with a spanner in my hands.

First thought would be that there was a phone kit fitted at sometime and was never removed properly.
Pop the unit out and see if there are any wires crimped to the radio loom that have been cut off. You may find a small black box with lots of wires which is a mute kit.

Phone mute
I have a Parrot Bluetooth kit fitted to my Symphony.
It does not come up with a message in the display when a call is made or recieved, only the sound is muted. It does not work at all without the ignition being switched on. There are connections in the ISO plugs for a permanent 12v to maintain the radio memory and to enable the radio to work without the ignition on. I would check your connections to the ISO plugs, for any alterations to the wiring. If these are ok. then it's possible your Symphony is faulty. There is a mute line in the 8 way power plug (the one with the big black wire in). Normally this would be empty.
This may have been added by an installer, then cut when the phone system was removed. If this grounds, it will show 'phone mute' and quiet the radio. If you can't find the pin info anyweher, I can look it up, but not until later. |

Cheers guys. I've had the unit out a couple of times but not spotted anything obvious, but then again I am a techno-biff. Very frustrating fault especially as I have to keep disconnecting the battery.....at least it holds its radio code when I do. Just for my information, how long do you reckon it takes without battery power before the unit needs the code inputting?
