Having seen the tale tale signs of water in the rear footwell on the drivers side whilst at the midlands nano meet, last Saturday, when having another matter addressed, I decided to see what state the drains were in after cutting off duck bills in both front wheel arches.

Passenger side was fine and was able to side net curtain wire right up to the sunroof and clear the built up muck.

Drivers side was somewhat different, couldn't push net curtain wire down towards wheel arch at all. From the wheel arch it seems the net curtain wire kept on going in and in for about 2m! It was apparent that the pipe had become dislodged within the cabin. This was confirmed when I got my hand up past the pedals and I could feel the end of the pipe evidently spilling into to drivers side footwell. I then removed the mats and belted the carpet a couple of times and saw the dampness rise!!! Got my pela VAC pump and managed to get VAC pipe between the sill and floor under the carpet, and sure enough some water was sucked out.

So its off to get the 16mm straight connectors tomorrow..........

(Whilst writing this note above swmbo called to say her 1.8 75 was dead at work ,no electric whatsoever. So between para 2 & 3 above went off to collect her. Will need to borrow jump leads but suspect dead battery as a result of ?)

Busy day ahead for me running all over the places which are 20 mikes apart.

Hi Mike.
I think if you find an Halfords they only sell the 16mm connectors in the box of multi connectors box and there are only three in a box and a car needs four really if you do all four tubes, but you can use garden hose as well, a couple of members have used this with success trebor is one, but i still prefer the connectors as they have barbs on and can not pull out etc Arctic

Pleased to say Drivers side drain plug done, passenger side was fine, and both rear ones accessed from boot.

Now in respect of drying out drivers side carpet, I may rig up something to get the hot air from the supply to the foot well piped under the carpet and foam. This should assist in dehumidifying the whole drivers side footwell over a couple of weeks!!

Default Sunroof Drains Tube Leak Solved

Arctic
I had only had the car for a few days when I became aware of a musty smell in the car which was going to spoil my enjoyment of an otherwise very friendly and driveable car.
I happened by chance to stumble across your contributions concerning the sunroof drains and plenum drains.
I have done the drivers side front and passenger side rear but have had some difficulty getting the sat nav out for the drivers side rear but I will win eventually.
I can only do a bit at a time as I suffer a bit back wise but the passenger side front has yet to be tackled when I can get under cover.
The purpose of this PM was to thank you most sincerely for the effort you put into the thread and for the quality of the photographic illustrations.
Since reading your thread I have subscribed to the 75 and ZT owners club and am further grateful to them for the response I have had on a few other queries.
I only hope I shall one day be able to contribute to the forums in a way that will help others.
Once again THANK YOU.
JohnR.

I obtained the connectors from Wilco Motersave. They charged £1.90 for a single pack and then subsequently £1.90 for a two pack on the two following Mondays as they only stock one pack of all connector sizes.

Done these on my ZT recently, drivers side was dry but passenger side wet and quite a lot although not flooded, pulled the carpet back and got some old towels and soaked up the surplus then for the next couple of weeks placed old dry towels under the carpet to get the rest and changed them daily to start with and then every other day, worked and now dry. Car was in use daily during this time and when passenger trood on carpet it helped get the water out of the foam backing and onto the towel

Default Sunroof Drains Tube Leak Solved

Two points:
1. I want to check under my carpets, what is the best way to lift the edge. Are there hidden screws? I have had a look but do not want to force anything and do damage.
2. When checking the plenum containing the pollen filter (which I replaced) and the ECU, I noticed that the hole at the bottom had no rubber insert and I could see, what appeared to be a painted surface.
The drivers side has a rubber insert which I presume terminates under the wing in the "duck bill". should there be a rubber exit tube on the passenger side?
JohnR

If there should be a rubber tube can anyone give me a part No

I could not detect any water in the foot wells by probing through the holes left by the removed carpet fixings but that musty smell remained. A friend suggested it may be from the Air Con so I invested in a Wynns AirCon cleaner and, although I did not put the re-circulator switch on, the improvement is quite marked. I shall give it a couple of months and then do it again with the re-circulator on and that should fix the mustiness.
I'll keep my fingers and other bits crossed for good measure.

Just been reading through this as it's a job I will have to undertake.
Was curious about the very unprofessional looking PTFE tape seal.
Are you sure that someone wasn't there before you and bodged it ?
Just wondering.

I have recently completed this 'repair' and can confirm the 'unprofessional looking PTFE tape seal' is factory!
