The YouTube video already mentioned is a good starting point for a beginner. Get a Haynes manual for all the details.
Before you take the cam belt off, check how the timing marks line up as shown in the video. This may confirm your thoughts on what happened. TC Last edited by T-Cut; 29th July 2013 at 15:45.. |

If you aren't taking the lower pulley off, there is a casting on the lower timing belt cover which must line up with the mark on the outer circumference of the outer crankshaft pulley arrowed in yellow If you are taking the bottom pulley off, lock a 22mm socket or spanner against the ground/chassis and spin the starter briefly, this will undo the lower crank bolt. There are two dimples cast into the crankshaft timing pulley which must straddle a line cast into the oil pump at 1 o'clock. Remember the valve gear rotates at 1/2 crankshaft speed, so if the camshaft pulleys don't line up on the first revolution, turn the crank a further 360 degrees. Ignore the red circle, that's the water pump. HTH Brian |

Just seen where you're located, if you get stuck give Terry at TS Autos a shout
Stourbridge must be less than five miles from you A repair even if the head has to come off would be preferable to scrapping the car. Brian |
