Hi Guys quick question, I am about to buy a relay which will be programmed for me. I have asked it to be programmed so that relay one is on for 30 mins (the FBH) and relay 2 is on for 15mins (the heater controls). So the way it would work is the FBH would come on immediately and then after a 15 min delay the heater controls would come on, before both turn off together after 30 mins.

Does this sound like good timings to warm up the car, or is this too long or too short?

thanks,

Is that 5 minutes whilst the engine is off? I thought the FBH takes about 30 mins to reach full temperature? If it's that quick when I might just time the blowers to turn on after 5 mins and then everything to turn off after about 15 or 20 mins.

Ive ordered my relay, have asked for it to be set so that the fbh runs for 20 mins and the heater blowers turn on after 5 mins and run for 15 mins, so both turn off together at 20 mins

How quickly it gets up to temperature, depends upon how cold the coolant is to begin with. I suggested a while back, that a better way to trigger the cabin system to life, was to have a thermal switch on the pipe, where it enters the heater matrix. So it closes its contacts when sufficient heat appears at the matrix and the cabin fan comes on.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

I think I am right in saying that if you have the earlier model fbh that there is an output triggered once it gets up to a certain temperature that you can use to switch on the heater.

Hi all
Sorry to hijack thread but what wires have to be connected on the early fbh if I wanted to fit an original timer ie would I have to run a separate feed into the engine bay
Fbh came from a 2001 car and mine is a 2003.
Sorry again for hijack but there must be other people interested in the answer.
Regards
Steve

If you have a FBH with the model number shown below.

Then you connect pin 3 to earth via a switch or timer.

If your FBH does not have the model number 985 then you connect pin 3 to +12v via a switch or timer.
