Default Rear seat back removal - saloon

How in the hell do you remove the rear seat backs? The sqaubs came out no problem, I can see where the backs need to release from but doing it is another question - is there a method to this?

Default Rear seat

Hi
I ended up breaking the plastic clips at the pivot, NOT the correct way .
I now need some new clips because every time i fold the seat down it comes out of the mounting.
Someone will know the correct procedure

Regards
Steve

Do you have folding rear seats? If not and they are non folding you push your hand down between the seat back and the bottom of the seat. and locate a strap,Pull down on the strap and it will release the top of the seat.Repeat on the other side and you will be able to lift the seat back forward. The centre seat belt will stop you from removing it fully but you will see how to undo the belt.

They are folding seats yes, they just don't want to release! I have pushed the seat sideways to the full extent of its movement whilst folded down and attempted to push slightly towards the rear of the car whilst trying to tug them free but to no avail - I can see myself breaking something if I go at it with more force/tools. I don't believe they should be this difficult to remove?

I broke the 2 plastic clips during the removal process also, took a bit of wrangling but they eventually released. Make sure you remove the seat cushion (part you sit on) first, then try to get the seat-back folded as flat forward as possible before working 1 side at a time, it should come loose. It might be worth trying to work a little grease around the hinge with a little brush, this left refitting the seat with 2 new plastic clips very easy. Am not sure if there's any other way of taking it out without breaking the plastic clips..

Note: I got 2 new plastic clips from local Range Rover (previously MG Rover) dealer, so they should still be available from X-Part. Think they were a couple of quid each, but can't remember exactly.
Good luck with it.

From the passenger side of the car with the rear upright folded down, and the squab removed push the whole seat over to the driver side, then go round push your hand behind the seat just in about 2" with your left hand, hold the side of the seat with your right and tug forward and up at the same time this should release the seat then repeat round the other side, Arctic.
