Hi Allen, more than likely worn brushes. Straightforward, you can either replace the brushes (not the easiest job going) or replace the fan, later 2 speed with resistor or Kenlowe.

New brushes are available from Engineering Carbon Products, ignore what it says about heater fan, they are rad fan brushes!

Hi/
All well and good once you have ground down the three lugs that are holding the motor to the fan, but how would you then re-attach the motor after fitting the brushes

You don't grind the lugs down, in theory you straighten them so that the back slips off . . . . I never got beyond that point! Spent a couple of hours at it with mole grips etc, gave up before I started throwing tools around the garage in frustration

Replaced the fan!

Hi Julien.
Are you referring to the bent over tags that hold the back plate on as below

If not are you referring to the three torx or bolts that hold the cowling to the fan and it's blades

Changed mine with the brushes from ECP, paid one day and arrived the next, straightforward job once the bumper is off, all of my bottom bumper fixings had seized so it now has a nice set of zip ties until I order new fixings.
Fan works fine though

Hi Allen.
You can re-brush as long as the motor is ok and not burnt out, or you can opt for a two wire 2 speed with gold resistor I note you have a 2.5 V6 I would try and get this sorted asap, if you lived closer to us in the west midlands this could have bee sorted out at the nano but even then it is three weeks away.

Can you see a silver resistor through the radiator grille?
