Jules had managed to get the low coolant warning on a diesel IPK, might have been a lowline screen. Perhaps ask him, as the thread didn't say how he did it.
I also recall seeing a post by Jezzer1 a while ago in which he stated that some very very early did have a fully functioning coolant level sensor. And there are photos in the Electrical library of nearby connectors which in the background show the prototype/pre-production white header tank fitted to a V6 with a sensor wired in. If only we could join the dots and complete the system

My Freelander has the option to enable via T4 LCS codes, I still think that ZCS codes need to be enabled, again perhaps these would be found in a very early car and compared against later model ZCS codes. I have a few types of instrument packs to play with, and will see what I can find out over this weekend if possible. Perhaps in the end I think will just have to use the windscreen washer circuit and place jumper leads to the LED on the coolant sensor light. |

Success With Low Line IPK Coolant Warning Light
Success with Low Line IPK.
Just rigged up a little harness and have the coolant light working. I think the issue I had before when I tried this was that I did not wait long enough for the light to come. This feature is perhaps a built in time delay to remove potential spurious signals from the coolant level sloshing around in the tank. Basically I inserted a contact pin in connector CO230 slot 10 which was empty, after 20 seconds the warning light came on. So on the car itself I'll just extend pin 10 wire to the switch on the tank and then run an earth wire from there, and job should be a good un, and no need to worry about obtaining ZCS codes. Now even more interesting is that I followed T-cuts idea about splitting the tank open, but this time I used a wood chisel and the lid came off quite cleanly, so that would make installing the sensor from the inside a real possibility. The material of the tank is PA66-GF30 so I will need to see what bonding agent is required. I tried a high line IPK with line 10 grounded but unfortunately the message centre screen did not display any warning with the switch rigged up to toggle between the screens even after a waiting period. It was never fitted, and you can blame BMW for that. My S reg has the black expansion tank. Their is a place for a reed switch to be fitted, and the float was supposed to sit inside with a magnet.
