Sunroof integrity compromised
The sunroof on my 2004 Rover 75 has a major leak. Initially, I thought it would have been the drain pipes and I followed Arctic's great tutorial and cleaned both sides. (including from the top sunroof drain tubes)
Unfortunately the leak seems to be from the actual sunroof. I'm guessing the seal is done? Its a major leak that floods where the LCM is located and thus I need to resolve it to stop further damage to the LCM and risk of fire. The water literally runs like a stream after sustained pressure on the sunroof. Any idea what would be the next step forward? As with all Sunroof issues, seems like a major task. |

I have discovered where it is leaking. It seems the sunroof frame doesn't sit tight? Is it supposed to be like this? It basically as an opening up the top and when the water pools where the drainage hole is, the water tips over into the headliner and runs down the a pillar.
Would running sikaflex across this opening resolve the matter? |

Hi, if the water is pooling by the drain hole I think your drains may still be blocked. I followed Artics excellent how to with the exception of cutting off the duck bills in the wheel arch. All was well for a year or so then I noticed the headlining was wet and the LED indicator bulbs in the rear lights were doing odd things. Checked the LSM and it was wet and water had pooled around the drain. Cut off the duck bills, carefully rodded the drains with a curtain wire from top to bottom, problem solved.
Two years on fingers x'd no more problems. Had the same issue on my 260 and again that was the duckbills, cut them off and foul smelling water poured out. |

Hi ozRover other than the advice above it probably wouldn’t go wrong plugging that slot as shown in your photo.
I really can’t understand why Rover had those “duck bills” on the drain pipes. I’ve just re fitted my sunroof yesterday after it just sitting in place for several “very wet” months. Ok some water has managed to get past the glass but when tested a few months back the water was running freely through the drain holes after clipping the duck bills off. Good luck |

I believe that the theory was that spiders etc could crawl in and make nests etc in there, blocking the drain. Cut the ends off and give a regular clean/flush out.

Yep that was it. All sorted after cutting off the ducks bill.
I will also seal the opening around the sunroof with sikaflex. I don't understand why that is there either. |
