75 KV6 Super strange electrical problem, P0340
Hi
Please help! Rover 75 KV6, no start, throwing code P0340 Cam Sensor "A circuit", so we change the sensor for a new one. Car then starts and runs perfectly. Twice, then same thing, wont start, same code comes back. Freezing the sensor makes no difference. So we order another new cam sensor. Car starts again immediately, and runs all day with perhaps seven shut offs. Then in the evening no start, same code. Car ECU is not damp and electrical cleaner has been used. Ditto other connections. Only other clue is that the odometer display has been coming on with the ignition off and key out. Disconnecting the battery fixes that. There seems to be good fuel pressure. It sprays out aggressively from the fuel rail when tested. If anyone has any suggestions please! The car is going to be scrapped if this cannot be fixed. Its just costing too much. Many thanks in advance. |

Check the wiring from the cam sensor plug back to the ECM and the supply to the sensor.

Check your plenums for water retention
We have had a lot of rain recently and a slosh or two of retained water in the plenum can cause havoc with the multi connectors. My diesel just conked out last summer due to this very situation. Once dried out and cleared no more issues.

i remember there was an issue with wiring loom chaffing on the body around the fuse box area under the bonnet.
Was on early cars until mgr put an insulator bit of rubber on the metal. Maybe worth a look |

Just so strange it worked for almost a day then twice then stoped again, and it was not raining that day. |

Hi, I had the same code and symptoms on my V6. It turned out to be the crank shaft sensor.
Not to expensive and fairly easy to do. Hope this helps |
