Project - Relocate CD Player to Boot
I've managed to acquire the necessary brackets and mounts to move the CD changer from the glove box to the boot.
As the longer CD cable is rare as rocking horse poo, I plan to cut and lengthen the original lead. I've found a company that sells cable by the metre, so it's probably going to cost a couple of hours and a bit of solder. I do have one question though. From the wiring diagram, I've identified the different colours but I'm struggling with the spec. Three wires (which I'm assuming are power and control to the player) B, 0.5D PK, 0.75, D WRY, 0.35 D The figures represent the cross section area in mm sq, but what does the "D" denote ? and 4 wires KB, MARA YB MARA BK MARA BY MARA I'm assuming that the MARA spec cabling is audio spec cable, but I can't find a suitable alternative. Has anyone got any thoughts on the most suitable aftermarket cable to use ?

Excuse me asking then David, but why would you need to know the pinouts? Or is it just curiosity?

I must admit I did have a good read, but thought I'd opt for this approach, as this keeps it as "factory as possible"

I don't need the pin outs as I'm effectively chopping the orignal loom in the middle( or there abouts) and pieceing / inserting the new cables so the original connectors remain undisturbed.

Actually, I think I have the Rover CD extension cable (to the boot) from my first Rover 75, somewhere in the Garage. Do you think it would fetch much on Ebay?

Depends if it's Alpine or Kenwood........if its Alpine then it could be described as "RARE"

CD extension cable
Quote:
My CD changer is in the glove box, but I made a swap from low- to high line satnav. Because of that my radio module had to be mounted in the boot and in the amplifier bracket I had to mount the video module. According to the electrical diagram the only way to connect the cd changer is by connecting it to the radio module. So if you have that extension cable still available I would ask you to send me some pictures first so I can see it will fit my situation. Especialy the connectors are important to me. Regards Ralph |

No No far to much hard work!
you will end up with half a mile of cable The leads are already in the back of the radio all you need to do is chop off the connector in the glove box with as much spare cable as poss and do likewise at the radio end (in this case just with the audio pairs and rejoin the connector end) then the other three wires left over from the connecor (+12v Gnd and K Bus) get extended if required and spliced into any of the matching coloured wires going to the radio I did this when I retrofiited HI-Line in the V8 |
