Im not sure how wide it is but i guess we could try the Rover 220 turbo Air-con thermostat. Its designed to fit in a pipe rather than a housing. If i remember rightly its not that big and is 88c.

I don't know if that parts right!
as already posted I have the same issue but can't see how the in line stat would cause it maybe it just throws an existing fault into the limelight as I wasn't sensitive to it before? Anyway I'm going to investigate tomorrow (wife took ZT this morning so can't today) first step to disconnect the K bus as this appears to be the cause of many FBH issues. An aside to the engine temp I've had my scangauge connected last few days and it is clear that the intake air temp is greatly reduced with the inline stat in place probably due to there being no hot air from the radiator near the intake (I have the mark one air intake mod not the fully circumcised version)

could work but have to say I really think the alloy stat housing is a more elegant solution and it does allow the fitting of a 91 or 92 degree stat which really helps, plus you have the option to quite easily run the housing without a stat if necessary

ordered my QTH107 from Rapid Auto Parts and arrived this morning, its not in a QH box so i assume its maybe a cheaper alternative.

Its got no hole and is stamped 91c

looks very like the qts507 I fitted does it have 'motorad' stamped on the other side? It works jim dandy. By the way bit naughty of rapid car parts that must be against trading standards I'm sure QH wouldn't be pleased!!

there is nothing stamped on the other side, but i agree about it being naughty, will fit tomorrow and then compare with the readings i have been getting from from the specialist components in line stat

That's similar to the Gates one I fitted from the Renault 5 / Clio
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1862100

Opening port size 22mm

Here's the specs of the Rover one: http://seekpart24.com/rover/400-hatc...h431k?c=100095

1mm bigger in diameter than the Renault one, wonder what the opening port size is ?
May have to have a look at the suppliers.

Dead easy to fit, and no cutting of the stat necesssary just warm the hose, lubricate and slide it in.

As Jules states above the acid test for the in-hose stats will be in the warmer weather to see if they can handle the flow required.

Of course if it presents a problem you could just take it out then replace it again when the weather gets colder again (10 minutes work)

Had mine fitted today. After 4 miles of in town driving, I got a reading of 90c. I've never seen that before in 4 years.

It's a 'young' engine, (less than 50k) and did seem to run quieter somehow, but that might be psychosomatic I suppose.

Definitely better and faster cabin heating, the future though, as someone once said, 'is out there'.

Theoretically in hot weather we should be fine ...?

can't see any reason why not as radiator is massive and the stats are clearly opening as expected and not causing air locks

Default Qth 107

Only time will tell !
Incidentally for those of you who have fitted the QTH 107, the opening port I can confirm is smaller than the one fitted by Specialised Components.
(it's as small as the Renault Stat which I've yet to prove has enough flow)

Comparison pics to follow.
