Tourers leak water?
 

Hi

So 75 tourers suffer from any water leaks, especially in the boot like the saloons do? If so, where do they commonly leak from? I will be checking mine for any leaks and want to prevent the places they leak from. Many thanks.

Mine leaked from the tailgate hinge recesses, some silicone around the welds seems to have stopped it dead.

I have also heard about rear side windows leaking and the seal around the tailgate. Of course there is the sunroof drains.

When I got mine there was a tide mark in the wheel well so I looked on here and the suggestion was that on the Tourer leaks tend to occur around the roof panals at the rear behind the plastic cover that just clips in. This cover is at eye level in front of you when the full tailgate is up.

Everyone said that the flimsy plastic retaining lugs will break off when you remove this cover and they were totally correct!

Rather than buy a new one (even if available?) I teased out the broken off lugs and carefully drilled holes in the cover using the broken lug marks as a guide.

I then used a waterproof sealant to fill the oblong plastic retainers and used some good quality self tapers to re fix the cover - this mod works well and has the advantage of sealing these holes.

Whilst the cover is off I used the same sealant to fill all the "gaps" where the metal panels lie on top of each other.

I rember people suggesting that little or no panel to panel sealant was used during manufacture on the Tourer.

Happy to say that since doing this my boot has remained dry. I can easily remove the plastic cover to check my applied sealant and a just use a smear of sealant on the screws when I re attach.

Best not to use Silicon Sealant as this can split and is a bu99er to get off. Use one of the Caravan Flexible Sealants that are White Spirit soluble so you can use this to smooth the sealant off after application an also totally remove the sealant if you need to reapply. This stuff does not set and so will not crack with the normal movement of the Panels - unlike Silicon Sealant.

Three winter later - still no leaks. :}

I had a leak on mine and it was the devil to find. I systematically duct taped off the roof channels, rear quarter windows, rear window, chrome strip etc, sprayed with a garden hose, and still couldn't find it. Then I removed the cover on the tailgate hinge area and started blanking off there. Mine was working its way into the seam just under one of hinges and working it way into the cubby area.

If it was like mine, pull out the back seat and have a look underneath, to see if the water has got under there.
