FBH and Parking Heater?
Hi guys, looking under the bonnet of my car, I find I have a nice Webasto FBH. Now never having had one of these before, I understand that they are designed to run to help get the car engine up to temperature on cold mornings etc.
Now, I also remember reading something about a Parking Heater system that was remote controlled and would use something like the FBH to heat the interior of the car without the need to start the engine or am I going mad? :duh::duh: So my question is, are they one and the same or is there a mod/conversion or am I just a mental case (answers on a postcard)? Thank you all  |
there is a proper timer for these but I think hard to come by. A second alternative is you can open the bonnet in the morning and earth one of the pins, this will start the heater and keep in running until you disconnect the earth. I think it may depend on which model which pin you earth Another alternative is to fit a bit of electronics that you can send a text message to, this will turn the heater on for a pre-set time. members have also connected up the cabin fan to run and so heat the interior of the car. Have a look in the How To section for the electronics advice. The electronics is from ebay and the seller is lewis something or other.
yes these are fantastic for heating the car macafee2 |

I have a MGR supplied remote with mine. If you can obtain one I think that you will find the sensor is already installed behind the dash. That way you can stand by the front door and switch it on.
Here is a useful article:- http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=100297 |
Cheers for the info guys, having a read now. Not many (if any at all) of the original remotes about by the looks of it. Project for later in the year then.

Have done the heated seat switch mod on my ZT with an FBH and is a great alternative to the almost impossible to get remote\timer. It was also not overly complicated and the how-to on here made it a doddle.
I thought about the GSM\text mod but looked very complicated for the amount of actual use it would get. |

the land rover telestart unit fits and works a treat, I have fitted a couple of these for members.

Getting the parts
I managed to source all the parts necessary on eBay which Trikey fitted to my newly acquired tourer.
They came from boats and our system is regularly fitted on canal boats apparently. That's where I got a second hand OEM Webasto timer from and a complete (never used)retro fit T91 telestart kit (included remote & timer and T91 unit). Paul |
