VIS .....What does it stand for?
I have spoken to two Xpart dealers in the North West re replacing VIS motors and they have never heard of them!
When I explained where they lived, I was told "Oh we always replace the whole manifold".... its £500! I have been asked to book in a Danish member (Erik) with a North West Ex Rover dealer to sort his "rattling manifold problem" when he arrives in Manchester next week. Mike has indicated I could fix this for him with new motors as they're fairly easy to replace, however I don't want to finish up with Erik being stranded here if it gets complicated. Do Rimmers stock these? Any thoughts? What does VIS stand for? Chris |
VARIABLE INTAKE SYSTEM!
There are millions of threads on this subject! Try this one for starters http://www.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen...6variable.html http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...motor+manifold And this one. The search tool bar up top is working great at mo!! http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...7&postcount=28 |
Chris,
Part numbers are: MKE100102 - Motor assembly multi point injection/TBI (VIS motor unit, the one on the top) MKE100110 - Motor Assy-MPI/TBI (VIS motor unit, the one on the back/side) pic of location of top motor (back motor is behind this and on the end of the manifold: http://midnightphotos.co.uk/userimages/full/12/3726.jpg When replacing you must take rubber seal from old motor body and put on the new one as new motors come sans seal. Motors are held on iwth four screws - undo and remove - easy peasy ;) hth Mike |
I thought it was Very Irritating Sound from the manifold:D

Thanks for the websites they were very interesting, however I had searched for some time and found many references to repairing the VIS motors with a soldering iron, but this was not what I required. I just needed reassurance as to what it involved in removing and replacing the motors.... this I did not find. I have no experience of the V6 motor as all my experience is with the K4. I'll ring Rimmers tomorrow to check availability and have a go using Mike's part numbers and info. Thanks again Chris |
Very Idiotic System

Virtually Incorrect Solution?
Cheers Mike
Thanks for the part numbers, I hope they're as easy to fit as you say! Trouble could start when it isn't cured by just the motors being replaced! Chris |
Five minute job each to change them, one connector & 4 screws. Piece of cake!
Like Mike says Remember to transfer the rubber seal from the old to the new motor! Have a look at the link, there's some links, which explains how & what the VIS is. http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=18709 |
Thanks Tatts, what a fantastic set of videos!
Is the dreaded inlet rattle usually cured by replacing these two motors? Chris |
Agree with Miketata
Thinking back to my old J reg Rover 827 Sterling (what a fantastic motor that was), the Honda Legend engine was completely trouble free even after 180,000 miles. The variable inlet tracts on that were vacuum operated with a few linkages. (didn't even have to adjust them after all those miles) It still puzzles me how manufacturers in this day & age can produce a duff design after all previous mistakes have been learned. |
