Great videos! Thanks!
The second video talks about the VIS system, but shows the intake and valves to be made from cast alloy and not the thermoplastic on the R75 KV6. I presume the videos are showing the R800 KV6? Is the R800 VIS system better or more reliable, and is it transferable to a R75? |

personally thought that the prices charged for the cambelt change was a bit steep, em, now i can see why they charge what they do, especially when they are doing the belts with the engine in the car

With regard to the manifold - yes the R800 KV6 was a alloy manifold with a different throttle body. When development for R40 was undertaken then KV6 from the R800 was developed further and refined for a more mass-produced line. The thermoplastic manifold was implemented to aid mass-production (and probably other reasons so I applogise for my knowledge gaps here ).

nice find Tatts - very interesting watching. The cambelt change video makes it look easy compared to when the engine is in the car.

Brilliant videos - well done for finding them and letting us know. I'm certainly a great deal more educated about the KV6 today than I was yesterday!
Having said that - it's raised a doubt or two in my mind... perhaps those with experience here can put my mind at rest. Now that Rover is gone, how can we be certain that any garage offering service - specifically a cambelt change - will be (a) using the correct tools to lock the camshaft gears so that they don't damage the camshaft when rotating it to remove the bolts and (b) replacing these camshaft end bolts (which according to the video are 'one-use, one-stretch' items), with brand new ones, and not just refitting the old? I'm sure one gets what one pays for, and all that, but how can we KNOW that these bits are being done properly? Frankly, given what I've heard and read about 'certain (ex-)main dealers' I wouldn't trust them further than I could bend the Post Office Tower. And short-cutting a job like this could be terminal for your engine - and you'd never be able to prove a thing. Do you guys just take it all on trust, or do you know a main dealer that'll let you sit in a visitors gallery and watch while they perform 'open heart surgery' on your pride-n-joy's engine? Sometimes too much knowledge is a scary thing, isn't it? LOL! |

You're in the right place to come for comments on garages If you want any recommendations come servicing time then just ask, no doubt someone on here will know a garage in your area that they recommend.
If you fancy a (long) trip to Coventry area then there is really only one man for the job and that's Lates and his crew (Pete and Tom). They even have customers as far a field as mainland Europe - I kid you not |
